Whitney Designs

The work of metalsmiths John and Linda Whitney is featured in museums and galleries across the United States. For 50 years, John and Linda have made each piece from beginning to end using traditional techniques: cut pieces of metal are lovingly shaped over smithing stakes and tree stumps with the use of forming and raising hammers. Sterling silver, 14 karat gold, red brass, copper, nickel silver, polymer clay and natural stone blend to create exquisite, earthy textures and colors. Their studio is a little like stepping back into the pre-industrial age, as they use hand tools for most of the work, and a non-toxic mixture of salt and vinegar instead of the toxic acids used today. Creating with their hands is their daily inspiration and joy.
